Project Description

The existing full bath was unnecessary on the first floor of the brownstone, but a pretty powder room for guests
and a conveniently located bathroom for the family was essential.
Additionally, more space was needed for the adjacent kitchen in order to make it a more functional space.
So the tub / shower combo was eliminated and the bathroom reduced in size.
This allows for a better kitchen layout and a powder room that is now tiny, but functional and very special.

Drawing from the historic styles of the geographic area, simple subway tile and fixtures with a classic profile
were specified, all in white and polished nickel.
Ventilation in this windowless room was essential and is achieved by an externally vented exhaust fan.
The floor is sustainable cork tile, which links all the rooms of the first floor together via common material.
To make the final transformation of a tiny bathroom to precious jewel box, the sink wall is clad with
glass mosaic tiles in iridescent gem tones.
Illuminated by a recessed light overhead and pretty wall sconces, tiny tiles twinkle in the warm, incandescent light.
Deep, midnight blue paint wraps around the room, like the soft velvet lining of box filled with shining gems.
