Project Description

As it is with so many spacious, suburban homes, one of the most important rooms in the house was treated as an afterthought by the original builder.  My client’s Master Bathroom was cramped, dimly lit and badly-insulated.  The seldom used whirlpool took up a large portion of the room and a toilet compartment and linen closet used up precious space.

A spacious layout that would accommodate two busy professionals while incorporating luxurious materials with a neutral color pallet was the goal.  The tub was re-oriented to make room for a custom vanity, which is chock-full of storage. It’s topped with custom granite, which was carefully chosen by the client and myself as a part of my customized client services.  Undermounted sinks provide elegance and grace with their unique shape.  The stall shower was enlarged and a tilt-up seat made of teak provides a comfortable place to relax. The air jet tub is far more hygienic than the original whirlpool, since water is not recirculated and is very easy to use.  Oils can be added to the water for aromatherapy, as well as bubble bath to provide a soothing retreat.

Recessed lighting bathes the space in an ambient glow and two, large medicine cabinets not only provide generous storage solutions for each person’s necessities, the integral lighting is bright and clean.  Floor tile was laid on a diagonal to create spacial movement and is accented with glass tiles backed with platinum foil for a little bling”.  All tile is the same glaze color, but differs in size to prevent monotony and to add interest.

To address the temperature issue, the windows were replaced with more energy efficient models and the original insulation replaced with a product containing a higher R value, for better thermal resistance.  Radiant heat installed beneath the floor tile keeps the room cozy year-round.

This lovely Master Bath is now the crown jewel of the home!
