Interior Designer for Aging in Place Whole House Remodel in NJ
I am a Certified Aging in Place Specialist or CAPS; a designation earned through the National Association of Home Builders. This specialized knowledge is closely related to other design standards, long known to professionals, which I will discuss herein.
The Americans with Disabilities Act is a U.S. civil rights law that provides a set of technical guidelines, developed to fulfill the rights of the disabled, through building access. Another set of design guidelines can be found in Universal Design; a much broader term that is based more on a common-sense approach. Its main purpose is the design of environments that provide access for all people to the greatest extent possible without the need for modification.
It is common for contractors to follow only their local building codes, which does not ensure compliance with the ADA, Universal Design or CAPS standards. That is why it is so important to put your trust in a professional designer who has dedicated their career to these specialties as I have. As a Certified Aging in Place Specialist, I am required to be up-to-date on ways to enhance the safety, visibility, mobility and comfort within a person’s home - whether it’s for now, or forever.

Testimonial
The grab bars are great!
“The grab bars are great! I use all three and it is as if they have always been there. The new seat – which I never used in my old shower – is wonderfully placed and the low curb makes entering the shower much easier for me. I feel very comfortable and safe - everything is quite natural.”
